AAP rift widens: Vishwas looks beyond EVMs to explain poll losses

In Punjab, party MP Bhagwant Mann said there was no use in finding fault with EVMs and the party should introspect on the reasons behind its defeat in the recent Assembly polls.
The BJP managed a clear majority, winning 181 seats across the three municipal corporations in Delhi. Earlier in March this year another party leader, Chief of Whip and Bholath MLA, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, had also asked Kejriwal to stop interference of outsiders into the state affairs.
At least 70 per cent of the 2,516 candidates in fray for the Delhi Municipal Elections, including 40 of the AAP and 92 of the Congress, lost their security deposit.
Sanjay Singh is a social activist who has campaigned for the rights of street hawkers for more than 20 years and jumped into active politics through a political outfit named Loktantrik Samajwadi Party.
Regularisation of unauthorised colonies and providing better amenities had been one of the poll planks used by all political parties in the contest, in which the AAP, the BJP and the Congress were key players.

A key decision towards this end was the appointment of Delhi Labor Minister Gopal Rai as the AAP's Delhi convener, following Pandey's resignation.
That AAP's popularity has slipped was clear right after the latest round of the assembly polls, when it failed to perform in Punjab up to its expectations and drew a blank in Goa. It won a mere 48 of 270 seats. She also said that she will keep on supporting her party's fight against corruption till it reaches its logical conclusion. He said EVMs were not the main issue, but it was mistrust that is responsible for the party's poor defeat in the various elections. Vishwas also slammed the party for blaming electronic voting machines for its debacle. He said that since the AAP councillors didn't have to pay anyone, they could practice honesty if they wanted to. "Now AAP government will have to focus on working for Delhi because it is only the performance that matters", Rai said. "It did not do what it should have done to win the Delhi civic polls", Dikshit told reporters. For now, the 2015 Delhi win for AAP remains a flash in the pan, but if the party can shake off its losses and renew itself, this could change only as long as it focuses on remaining alive and relevant.
