Kelly Ripa set to announce new co-host for 'Live'

Ripa pointed out that the day of the announcement is also her 21st wedding anniversary with husband Mark Consuelos.

About her show Ms Ripa said, "It's always interesting to me when people try to pit us against other shows..." On the show Monday, Seacrest said he and Ripa have been friends for a long time.

Ryan Seacrest was announced Monday as the new co-host of the now-aptly named "Live with Kelly and Ryan," and his debut was every bit as much a reunion with an old friend. But the ending of "American Idol" gave that show's host less of a regular television presence.

Seacrest will also be an executive producer on "Live", noted the Hollywood Reporter. The announcement was made today during the 9 a.m. program, which airs locally on WTAE-TV.

Kelly, who has hosted the show since 2001, worked with several different co-hosts while searching for a replacement, including Andy Cohen and Fred Savage.

Seacrest emerged as the new host after a year of rotating co-hosts.

Kelly Ripa has had her eye on Ryan Seacrest for some time. In addition, Seacrest plans to move to NY full-time to continue his hosting duties. Ryan now lives in Los Angeles, but also has a home in Manhattan, and will be moving to NY. He recently renewed his contract to host red carpet specials for NBCUniversal's E! network, for example.

For the uninitiated, LIVE happens to be the among the top daytime entertainment talk shows now airing in the United States.

The seat next to Ripa was coveted by dozens of entertainment and news industry A-listers.

Ripa's last co-host, Michael Strahan, left Live last spring after four years to join Good Morning America, leaving Ripa feeling blindsided. And while the pint-sized TV personality has yet to confirm the news herself, CNN reports that her new partner in crime is none other than Ryan Seacrest.
