The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in NY.
The American fashion model made her third appearance at the annual event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in NY on Monday night. The Gala also celebrates the opening of the museum's latest exhibition, which this year has been put on by Comme Des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo.
Pop icon Katy Perry was the co-chair of the evening and chose a freakish John Galliano creation but it was as outrageous as it was inexplicable a look.
The 67-year-old Vogue editor-in-chief let go of her notoriously stoic persona last night during the Met Gala, when she was spotted dancing happily to Katy Perry's Teenage Dream.
Various versions of Kawakubo's trademark bob were seen on different celebrities, who experimented with choppy bangs, longer lengths and softer shapes. Hadid wore a show-stopping Tommy Hilfiger creation, but what really got the social media engine pumping was her $2,000 artificial, chrome nails dotted with crystals on the underside. Rihanna gestured to the crowd from the carpet in her Commes des Garcons look with stagey pink on her cheeks. From the front, her hair looked like a standard, middle-parted updo, but weaved into the back was a decorative gold headband, adding a touch of shine.
"I love a sexy look, so I knew Alex was going to do that for me", she shared. The "Work" star set jaws dropping in this Comme Des Garcons gown.
You nearly never see her in one of the pretty-but-dull gowns that are so ubiquitous on most red carpets.
Next to Anna was her friend, TV host and comedian James Corden, who was also enjoying the concert, happily grooving along to the beat in his black and white tuxedo while being cheered on by the people behind the camera. While some of the celebs from the worlds of film, TV, fashion, sports and music were inspired by Kawakubo, others made a splash in more classic looks, including Jennifer Lopez in 1950s elegance, a baby blue Valentino gown by Pierpaolo Piccioli.
Over the years, Wintour has raised around 150 million for the Costume Institute, which now bears her name. And then there was Solange Knowles, who wore a Thom Browne puffy coat with ice skates - yes, real ice skates.
In 2015, the Met Gala's theme was "China: Through the Looking Glass".
