Live with Kelly goes safe, staid with Ryan Seacrest

Seacrest has joined almost a year after Ripa's former co-host, Michael Strahan, left the Disney-distributed show for an anchor slot on ABC's "Good Morning America".

Seacrest, 42, hosted Fox's "American Idol" for 15 seasons and also hosts two radio programs - "American Top 40" and "On Air with Ryan Seacrest", ABC noted.

The show said it was "growing to two" on Twitter. He has his own production company.

Though undoubtedly qualified (Ripa can vacation easily with Live in his hands), safe and predictable Seacrest was "such an obvious choice it's boring", says Television Critics Association president Amber Dowling, who feels Ripa has done a great job steering the ship with a wide range of guest hosts over the past year.

Ripa's daily morning show, now titled as the syndicated series "Live with Kelly and Ryan, ' announced the news at the beginning of the Monday edition on ABC".

Kelly, whose decision to leave Fox News Channel for NBC News was a huge media story when it was announced in January, arrived at NBC in New York Monday for her first day of work at the new job. He won't be moving from Los Angeles anytime soon, but will spend most of his week in NY.

Ripa has shared the stage with numerous guest hosts since Strahan left after four years last May for a full-time job on "Good Morning America".

Over the past year, stars including Jerry O'Connell, Fred Savage and Scott Wolf have stepped in to host alongside Ripa.

"Nice to see you, partner", Seacrest said as he walked onto the NY set of the show made famous by Regis Philbin. Actor Chris Pratt was the first guest, and he carried balloons and roses onstage to give to the new broadcast team. Ryan is a close friend and his star shines as brightly off camera as it does on.
