Recently I was asked what determines when we celebrate Easter Sunday? Christians believe that it is the holiest day in the year.
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. The reason for this variation is that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.
Second, inviting people into your church offers them a sense of community and a powerful reminder of a collective group of people who have been transformed by grace. Given the symbolism of new life and rebirth, it was only natural to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at this time of the year.
"Did you know that one of the messages (of Easter Sunday) is hope, that when you go through all these hard moments in life, Christ has gone through crucifixion and when he rose again from the dead, the message is hope, that life does not end with suffering?"
Let us profess our faith in the resurrection by our witness of life.
"Basically, we'll be talking about what the resurrection of Jesus tells us in terms of a bigger story", he said. He said on Tuesday, he would be "writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi because it is necessary for me to express concern on behalf of the people with special reference to the Northeast, which has a significant Christian population".
The prelate related the message of Easter to the two hot issues today being objected to by the Church. The Apostle Paul elaborated on several hopes believers have that tie directly to the resurrection of Jesus. "After His resurrection, Jesus tasked His followers with sharing the good news of the gospel: "...and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth..." This is a happy day for Christians, because it proves (to those who believe) that there really is eternal life after death. Easter represents the fulfilment of God's promises to mankind. Jewish pilgrims streamed into Jerusalem every year in the hope that God's chosen people (as they believed themselves to be) would soon be liberated once more.
The Rev. Brooks Keith, pastor of Vail's Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, calls Easter "the heart of the matter, the very nexus of God's plan to re-unite humanity to himself". Actually, I've called all the pastoral staff of Moody church, asking them to call their leaders, who then call other leaders, who then call everyone. For that we give thanks and celebrate. The Easter rally is organised by The Diocese of Calcutta and United Christians of Kolkata.
