Point guard Mike Conley scored 24 points and added eight assists as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-94 Thursday night at FedExForum to climb back in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.
The San Antonio Spurs at the end of the first quarter of game would lead by three points with the score of 26 - 23 Grizzlies. The star of the night for the Grizzlies was point guard Mike Conley, who almost provided a surprise triple-double with 35 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. He averaged 1.3 points per game this postseason after averaging 5.1 points and 6.5 rebounds during the regular season.
After a game that great, the most appropriate things to say are simply "wow" and "thank you". Spurs were out of timeouts with just 7 seconds left in overtime and passed the ball to Danny Green who tried to shoot a 59-foot three-pointer but came up short. Leonard also tied it at 108 with 17 seconds left in overtime with a 3 from the left corner.
"I thought we played well enough to win the game", Parker said, and then looking ahead to Game 5 in San Antonio: "It's a must-win situation for us now".
Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph, left, shoots against San Antonio Spurs center Pau Gasol (16) during the first half of Game 3 in an NBA basketball first-round playoff series Thursday, April 20, 2017, in Memphis, Tenn.
While Memphis had 22 turnovers compared to San Antonio's nine, the Grizzlies also dominated the glass, pulling down 51 boards compared to 37 by the Spurs. Whether you think the officiating in Game 2 was unfair or not, it was an advantage that Kawhi had in that one that he just didn't have in Game 3.
Paul Millsap had 29 points and 14 rebounds for his second straight double-double and Atlanta led wire-to-wire in beating Washington in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference playoff series.
Kawhi Leonard was making everything, scoring San Antonio's last 16 points in the fourth quarter and finishing with a career-high 43 points.
Grizzlies: Vince Carter became the first 40-year-old to make three or more 3-pointers in a playoff game.
Randolph responded with 21 points and eight rebounds, and the Grizzlies will need much more of the same from the 15-year veteran to keep the Spurs from "bullying" their way through the rest of this best-of-seven series.
"That was the play of the game, other than Marc's", Conley said.
If Indiana had won, Game 5 of the Spurs-Grizzlies series would have tipped off at 7. LaMarcus Aldridge had only 13 points and two rebounds on an off night, but did have this impressive dunk.
Whether it was playing in front of home fans or coach David Fizdale's already-legendary tirade after Game 2, the Grizzlies have been able to turn around a series that looked to be entirely one-sided. The Spurs needed to take control of the game, but they didn't.
"It was not a ideal game", Conley said after team's practice Monday afternoon here. The books are offering the home team as a 10-point favorite, same as in the first two game they managed to cover.
