Former Glee star Heather Morris experienced this cautionary tale firsthand Monday night after getting eliminated from Dancing with the Stars despite having received a flawless score for her rumba with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, choreographed to TLC's 1994 hit "Waterfalls".
Heather Morris, wearing a sexy red dress, brought her a-game to the 1940s-inspired rumba performance. "So they're safe and Peta's OK", she said.
The actress and her pro partner, 37, got the first ideal 10 score of season 24, but they were still voted out of the ballroom.
Revealing: Heather was on Good Morning America on Tuesday, discussing her shock elimination from the dancing competition series, when reporter Lara Spencer noted her partner was unable to be present for the follow-up interview due to a 'personal emergency'. "Brandy [Norwood] and I didn't make the final [in season 11] when I thought she was one of the best dancers that season, but [that] wasn't as shocking as this". I'm truly just not all that surprised by their too-early elimination.
Fellow competitor Nancy Kerrigan remarked that "the whole thing stinks", as they had been working together as a team and spending a lot of time together.
"Everybody is so fantastic here and just so welcoming, [so] it was like, nice to [know] that I'm going to say goodbye, but I'm also going to see these people again", she added. But you know the show is based so heavily on fan votes, so I think that's just it.
Of course, it didn't help that Morris didn't get much time to say goodbye as the show came to a close, but you could tell how surprised and disappointed she was, even if she put on a courageous face. "They just lacked that I guess".
Tom said to Heather, "I have to say, in 24 seasons, that is probably the most vocally unhappy reaction we've gotten about a result". Maks is no stranger to shocking happenings on "DWTS", but being booted in Season 24 hit him where it hurt.
Next week's show will feature the theme "Night at the Movies", with the stars trying to capture the spirit of various movie genres.
