Drake to host first-ever 'NBA Awards' on June 26

According to a press release, former National Basketball Association players, celebrities, coaches and current stars will be in attendance June 26th.

More details about the upcoming NBA Awards.

The Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Sixth Man Award, Most Improved Player and Coach of the Year will be presented at the show.

The NBA is appealing to its younger demographic for its inaugural awards show, announcing Tuesday that platinum-selling rapper Drake will serve as the host.

Additionally, there will be several fan-voted awards, which will be revealed this Thursday, April 27th, during TNT's Inside The NBA broadcast. The NHL and National Football League already have similar award shows but this is the first time the NBA will use the format.

If you're a Drake fan, you probably remember his entertaining turn hosting the ESPY Awards in 2014.

In past years, the league has made its award announcements as a release on its website.

Drake, a Toronto native, has been a team ambassador for the Raptors since September 2013.
