The march was not entirely peaceful as at least 21 people were arrested in California after Trump's supporters and opponents clashed at a march in Berkeley. "The election is over!"
The tax return issue probably polls reasonably well, in the sense that if you ask people whether President Trump should release his tax returns most probably answer, "Sure". Washington, D.C. and New York City demonstrations were bigger than other cities.
In the United States, 15 April is colloquially known as Tax Day, as it's usually the day on which individual tax returns are due.
From there, at 9:07 a.m., Trump dove into a subject near and dear to his heart: His electoral college win.
The IRS said a year ago that an audit does not prevent individuals from releasing their returns.
Appearing on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, the Vermont senator Bernie Sanders said: "The American people need to understand what kind of involvement Trump's business dealings have overseas and what kind of leverage those dealings may have on his policies as president of the United States". "They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: Most Americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like".
"I'm thinking about maybe when we find out the true story on Hillary's emails", he said of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Thousands chanted and marched Saturday demanding the release of his returns so the public can examine his business ties and determine whether he has links to foreign powers.
But many demonstrators said they hoped Saturday's marches would convince Trump otherwise.
Trump has stated that only news outlets care about his tax returns. "We're here to say we care", said Singh.
"If he thinks he can get away with playing king, he's got another thought coming", Waters said.
Organized by Philadelphia Jobs With Justice, a local nonprofit in the area, the march wanted to show specifically with the tax returns and get answers to some questions that have been surrounding the Trump campaign and now presidency.
Republicans also have rebuffed Democrats' efforts to get the House Ways and Means Committee to act.
