James Milner sent in a free kick from the right wing, Lucas Leiva flicked the ball on from the edge of the area, and Firmino got in front of his marker at the back post to nod home from close range.
Alberto Moreno had a golden opportunity to put the result beyond doubt at the death when Ben Foster went up for a corner, leaving his goal wide open, but he missed the target.
BBC reports that despite that miss, Jurgen Klopp's side secured a fifth win in seven games, sending West Brom to a third straight defeat.
Firmino was allowed too much room to net his 11th Premier League goal of the season as the hosts' set-piece defending failed them in first-half stoppage time.
They were grateful for a smart save by the Belgian Mignolet from Matt Phillips late on, as well as some poor West Brom finishing, and Liverpool boss Klopp challenged his players to maintain their steely focus.
Mignolet kept a clean sheet as Liverpool narrowly beat West Brom 1-0 at The Hawthorns yesterday. I am not concerned because I think Phil fits really well and comfortably here. Liverpool were barely troubled by any West Bromwich Albion set-piece and even scored off a set-piece against them.
"You're always going to get criticised by a small group of supporters, you have to manage that, but the majority of people understand what we're trying to do and where we're trying to get this football club".
"It is one of the most hard places to come because in no game can you feel comfortable", he said. It was a deserved win for the Reds, who will be happy to leave such a tough road environment with three points.
Pulis thought West Brom were punished for a foul from Darren Fletcher on goalkeeper Simon Mignolet earlier in the game that was similar to Firmino's block on Dawson. We got it back in the last 20 minutes of the game and we're disappointed we haven't got anything out of the game.
Goalkeeper Ben Foster pushed forward in the final few minutes and that decision was almost punished but substitute Alberto Moreno missed an open net in the dying seconds.
So when the Brazilian headed past Ben Foster in first-half added time you knew what was coming.
