President Trump Awards Purple Heart US Army Sergeant Wounded in Afghanistan

President Trump traveled with the First Lady to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda where he presented a Purple Heart to a soldier who had been recently wounded while on duty in Afghanistan. His wife, first lady Melania Trump, joined him.

Barrientos, whose right leg below the knee had been amputated, was brought into a hospital atrium in a wheelchair, accompanied by his wife, Tammy.

Here is what the President needs to understand; being awarded a Purple Heart after you were wounded or killed for your country is a little different from winning a season of The Apprentice.

In the tweet, Trump said, "Looking forward to seeing our bravest and greatest Americans!"

We're watching how Donald Trump is using this platform of unfettered communication now that he's commander in chief.

Trump reportedly met privately with about a dozen other service members who are receiving care at the medical center. Barrientos was recently injured while serving in Afghanistan.

Most presidents attend the event. During the campaign, a veteran gave the then-nominee his Purple heart. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart.

"I heard about this and I wanted to do it myself", the president said before pinning the Purple Heart on Barrientos in a small ceremony at the military hospital facility also known as "The President's Hospital". And, as much as possible, we'll relate what else was going on at the time.

"Congratulations ... tremendous", Trump said to Barrientos, using his expansive vocabulary and ability to string together words to form coherent sentences. His staff is also boycotting in a show of "solidarity" with the president.
