Trump family hosts first White House egg roll

There had been some hand-wringing over whether the Trump administration would be able to pull off a successful event.

On early Monday April 17, hundreds of children, military children and Congressional staff filled the White House gardens to search for eggs at the traditional Easter party.

But a downsized version of the 139-year-old event kicked off early Monday on the South Lawn, where thousands of children gathered to hear them speak.

The search for Easter eggs is one of the most emblematic traditions of the federal capital, established in 1878 by President Rutherford B. Hayes. Wells Wood Turning, who manufacture the eggs, tweeted the White House just weeks ago to find out if the roll was going ahead. "It's incredibly unbelievable that the "immigrant First Lady" has to nudge POTUS when our National Anthem starts".

As per the US Flag Code, it is necessary for everyone to place their right hand over their heart as a sign of respect during the national anthem.

There have been stylish first ladies throughout the history of the U.S., there have even been first ladies who were ex-models, but is Melania Trump (née Knauss) the hottest?

Trump commented that the children invited to take part in the event were "highly, highly competitive".

Eric Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Tiffany Trump also partook in the fun.

A total of some 18,000 Easter eggs were made available to the kids, however, by the White House.

Former Obama adviser: "This goes without saying but if this had been Barack Obama, it would have been wall to wall coverage on Fox for the next three years".

A little rain didn't stop the White House from hosting the biggest event of the year.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer attended the egg roll with his family.

But Stephanie Grisham, spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, told the Washington Post that's by design.
