The Detroit Tigers' offense will be missing its centerpiece performer for a little bit after the team announced Miguel Cabrera will be placed on the 10-day disabled list. Veteran catcher and corner infielder John Hicks was recalled from the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens to fill the void on the 25-man roster.
Cabrera was taken out of Friday's game against the Twins in the seventh inning after beating out an infield single in the fifth inning. The two-time American League MVP experienced more groin discomfort when he stretched to catch a throw later in the inning. Until the MRI results are revealed, the Tigers will just have to remain optimistic that a little rest will do the trick for Cabrera.
The Tigers have lost four consecutive games and have been beset by injuries in the early part of this season.
This will be another blow for the Tigers, who haven't had J.D. Martinez's services available to them yet this season.
