Swanson eager to silence Lobov, continue UFC rise

Lobov battles fourth ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Cub Swanson.

On a card stacked with Fight of the Night candidates, this matchup between bantamweight vets John Dodson and Eddie Wineland may be the frontrunner.

"Right now, at this point in my career being 35 years old, I'm strategically taking the right matches that are going to be the correct steps for advancement; that's what it's all about", Sanchez said of this co-main event bout.

In one of the most incredible fights of past year, he overcame Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 in a brutal, enthralling contest but told Sportsmail he recovered quickly and the body is finely-tuned once again.

When does UFC Fight Night 108?

Ultimately it's Lobov's bluster that bothers Swanson more than anything because he feels it's just an attempt on his opponent's behalf to emulate his famous teammate Conor McGregor, who just happens to be the most outspoken fighter on the entire UFC roster.

Lobov prompting the UFC to cut him could have gone one of two ways, and luckily for the Saggart native, everything has worked out in his favour as he approaches the most important fight of his life.

As for whether or not he expects Lobov to fight up to his level on Saturday, Swanson said whether he does or not, that's what he's preparing for. Swanson holds the home turf advantage on Saturday night, but Lobov that he has taken away any advantage his foe could have by arriving at the fight location two weeks ago. I feel like those two things aren't true statements. Swanson himself admits he doesn't like Lobov, and he explained why on show.

STARSPORT count down the 20 greatest knockouts in UFC history. He must be more compact, because those big strikes leave him open to a counter. A veteran inside the UFC who has fought the likes of Frankie Edgar, Max Holloway, Jeremy Stephens and other big names in the featherweight division, his calling for a big fight shouldn't be ignored. Not that Lobov minds too much. Swanson is nominally a boxer, but he can throw powerful and flashy kicks when the need arises.

'There was nobody ranked in the timeline that I wanted to fight so cool, I've got no problem kicking this kids ass'. Though he does not usually rely on it, he is also a proficient grappler. He is going to be aggressive and in his opponent's face when the Octagon door closes, and the way Al Iaquinta sees it, that's the ideal scenario for him when he returns for the first time in a little over two years. The easiest breakdown is to say whoever lands first wins, but if Ellenberger decides to use his wrestling, it's a whole new fight.

Lobov is entering the most important fight of his career this weekend against a seasoned, extremely well rounded opponent in "Killer" Cub Swanson. As close as Choi came to knocking out the Jackson-Wink MMA mainstay, Swanson came even closer to putting away the young'un on several occasions.

Basically, in virtually every aspect of the fight Swanson has the edge. The pick is Swanson by third-round TKO.
