Serena Williams is pregnant with her 1st child

She still plays at an extraordinary high level, having won 125 of her 138 singles matches since Wimbledon 2014. The image was captioned "20 weeks".

Bush Novak told Reuters that Serena Williams meant to sit out the remainder of the 2017 season and return next year. "I'm happy to confirm that Serena is expecting a baby this fall", Novak said in a statement.

The confirmation came after a day of rampant speculation that extended even to the global governing body of women's tennis.

Serena Williams' representative has confirmed the tennis ace is due to give birth in the autumn.

CNN reported the spokesperson saying that Serena and her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child.

Williams is the second leading women's tennis player to announce a pregnancy in the previous year.

Christ Evert, 18-time grand slam victor, said it was a "very special year ahead" for Williams.

Since the birth of son Leo, Azarenka has returned to training and plans to return to competition at the WTA tournament in Stanford, California, in July. That event will take place four months before her 37th birthday - but do not write off a woman who will return to world number one on Monday.

It's another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant - and, based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open. Clijsters retired in 2012 at 29.

But she has been inactive since her win over elder sister Venus in the final at Melbourne Park.

With the Serena Williams pregnancy news on the rise, the tennis champ is set to return to the court in 2018.

The announcement, however, left the tennis fraternity to think as to how long she would continue with the sport.

If Williams' 20-weeks post was accurate, it would suggest she was about eight weeks pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January.

Serena Williams has not played a tournament since that victory.

"We'll look forward to seeing her when she's back competing again".

It remains to be seen if both Williams and Azarenka can add to their haul of Slams upon their return, but if the former could it would be yet another incredible feat in her stunning career.

Serena previously revealed she wants to have children "someday" but still feels like she is too young.
