We've gone through the Senior Bowl, the NFL Scouting Combine and pro days to finally reach the culmination of an always-too-long draft process. The extended feature will capture the outcome of the 2017 NFL Draft and examine the road ahead for the newest crop of talent from the Pac-12.
NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock has done his homework on every draft-eligible player, and researched the needs of every team leading up to next week's NFL Draft. The three-day 2017 National Football League draft starts on Thursday.
Mayock said FSU's Dalvin Cook and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey "make sense at 19", but said he thinks McCaffrey will already be picked when the Bucs are up. However, they've still got one notable name on the list. "Those are the kinds of players that I think would fit into that range".
I know some will say that we can't take a QB because taking one early would admit that the team made a mistake drafting Christian Hackenberg in the 2nd round a year ago. The concern there - and there are teams that have pushed him down their board or off their board - is because of injuries. "The last five years there's been a average of seven running backs go in the first three rounds which is where you pick a three-down back". The NFL draft rumors now going around are that the Oakland Raiders may draft a young running back for their team should Marshawn Lynch decide not to sign with them. "However, I think the only wild card before (the Browns) is the Jets at No. 6", Mayock said. Perine broke Billy Sims rushing record at Oklahoma while the Lions have shown interest in Hunt. I look at Donelle Pumphrey (San Diego State) more as a third-down, change-of-pace guy that I love.
