Mourinho fears worst with Ibrahimovic, Rojo injuries

Mourinho, whose side play Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, said: "We are in trouble".

French striker Anthony Martial, recently challenged to improve his approach by Mourinho, replaced Ibrahimovic for extra-time on Thursday and could now be given a bigger chance to stake his claim. "I can't say any more than that, I am not a doctor".

Marcus Rashford proved a capable deputy for Ibrahimovic, netting a smartly taken victor to send United into the competition semi-finals for the first time.

Losing Marcos Rojo in the first half also didn't do United any favors as Daley Blind struggled to replicate the shift Rojo had been putting in up until his injury.

Teenage striker Marcus Rashford fired United past a stubborn Anderlecht team and into the Europa League semifinals on Thursday evening, but not before Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic had gone down with injuries. "He's not at the level of sharpness you need to play a high level of football".

The Red Devils qualified for the semi-finals of European football's second biggest club competition after Marcus Rashford scored an extra-time victor to send the English side through with a 3-2 aggregate win.

The midfielder has also commented on speculation that United are prioritising winning the Europa League over securing a top four finish. "We have great examples of fighters, with the right mentality".

"They were quick out of the blocks, as you would expected from United at home and they got their noses in front, but my goodness, the finishing was so poor it was unbelievable".

United advanced 3-2 on aggregate to join Lyon, Ajax and Celta Vigo in the last four, after a tension-filled night of quarterfinal second legs in Europe's second-tier continental club competition.

"We are in trouble", Mourinho said.

When asked about the initial prognosis, Mourinho said it was, "Fairly negative". "If you look at the amount of goals he's contributed, I feel a little bit sad for him because he's been absolutely brilliant since he's been there".

But Southgate said last month that he believes "the best thing" for Rashford's development would be to play in the Under-21 tournament.
