Ibrahimovic future in doubt after 'significant' knee injury

The ex-Sweden worldwide is United's top scorer this season, with 28 goals.

Both Ibrahimovic and Rojo are feared to have suffered season-ending knee injuries in Thursday's Europa League quarter-final victory over Anderlecht.

Sources told ESPN FC on Friday that Ibrahimovic was likely to be out injured until January 2018, while multiple reports said that Rojo was set to miss the rest of the season.

United did not give a specific timeline for recovery and said that both players will see specialists in the coming days.

United presently sit fifth in the Premier League, four points adrift of fourth-placed city rivals Manchester City with seven matches left.

"Estimations of time to full recovery will only be possible once definitive treatment plans have been decided after these consultations".

The 35-year-old Ibrahimovic is United's top scorer this season with 28 goals in all competitions while Rojo has established himself at the heart of the defence.

Rojo's injury is also a serious bodyblow to United's depleted resources at the back with both England worldwide central defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling expected to be out till mid May.

Eric Bailly and Daley Blind are United's only fit senior central defenders, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe could earn opportunities before the end of the campaign.
