Game 1 and Game 2 take place in Washington D.C. In Game 1, the Wizards beat the Hawks 114-107 in a convincing manner. It was the sixth career playoff triple-double for Westbrook, who had an NBA-record 42 in the regular season.
"The difference in the game is we were playing basketball and they were playing MMA", Millsap said.
Just like in Game 1, Washington was able to get out to an early lead in this one, using a 14-0 run to take a 16-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Wall had 32 points and 14 assists as the Wizards scored 69 points in the second half. Dealing with the first blow from the Hawks will be important.
That offense from Wall, Beal and Morris was enough to offset 25 points from Atlanta's Dennis Schroder and 19 from Paul Millsap, who wasn't pleased with Washington's physicality and exchanged words with Morris going into halftime.
Tyler Sellers says that Dwight Howard needs to dominate Marcin Gortat for the Hawks to have a chance in this series. "We don't care if he shoots the ball 30 times, I think he didn't know he shot it 27 times until he got in the locker room, but like we said, those are all good shots you're taking and when he's aggressive for us, it opens up the floor for me". Coach Brooks seemed pleased with his team's shot selection and low turnovers, but wants to see them get to the foul line more often and keep Atlanta off the stripe, so that could be a point of emphasis heading into Game 2. Dennis Schroder scored 23 points and Tim Hardaway had 19.
"We were so locked in all week", Butler said. Like I said, I play in the moment.
"I'm proud of the way Brad played", Wizards coach Scott Brooks said.
And now the Warriors own a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series as it shifts to Portland for Saturday's Game 3, just as Kerr's group did going ahead on the Blazers in last year's Western Conference semifinal won in five games. The Atlanta Hawks have won four straight home games. He finished with seven points and 14 rebounds. Portland played again without center Jusuf Nurkic, and missed him. He has shown confidence and a skill set that will make him a key part of this organization whether or not they decide to rebuild. Wizards C Ian Mahinmi (calf), injured April 10 at Detroit, remains sidelined and is expected to miss Game 2. Lillard was 5 for 17 and held to 12 points.
"This is my house", Wall said about the play.
Both times featured wins in Toronto's Air Canada Centre, by the Wizards over the Raptors in 2015 and the Capitals over the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
According to game score, a metric created by John Hollinger to give a rough measure of a player's productivity for a single game, this was the second-highest highest game score in franchise history among players getting a double-double in the postseason - only Gilbert Arenas's 2006 performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers (36 points and 11 assists producing a 28.9 game score) ranked higher.
