China criticizes North Korea, praises United States on nuclear issue

Uncertainties also reside in South Korea's election next month to replace disgraced former President Park Geun-hye; her successor is likely to be more conciliatory toward the North.

The press statement would be the fifth issued this year by the council in response to ballistic missile and nuclear tests by North Korea.

North Korea's state television aired a show which ended with a mock-up video of missiles engulfing the United States in flames.

Experts point out that China also wants to prevent North Korea from becoming a full-fledged nuclear power - and certainly wants to prevent a war on its southern border that could send millions of refugees flooding into China and potentially risk bringing a United States military presence to China's borders.

"I think unpredictability may have some potential benefits in dealing with North Korea, but there are also risks", said Scott Snyder, a senior fellow for Korea studies and director of the U.S. -Korea policy program at the Council on Foreign Relations.

In reality, President Trump has vowed to stop the Kim regime from acquiring the capability to fit a nuclear warhead onto a missile that can reach the U.S.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has warned that the Trump administration is prepared to take unilateral military action if necessary to destroy North Korea's nuclear arsenal. However, this time the statement reportedly dropped "through dialogue" from the draft, which Russian Federation had insisted it be included, according to Reuters.

Without mincing words, the official newspaper of Pyongyang's ruling Workers' Party, the Rodong Sinmum warned that the U.S. and its regional allies like Japan and South Korea should not mess with Kim Jong-un's regime.

The US military's Pacific Command explained that the USS Carl Vinson strike group first had to complete a shorter-than-planned period of training with Australia.

The vice-president said the USA would honour its alliance with Pacific Rim nations and protect freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, the sea lanes vital to global shipping where China has been staking claim to disputed territory.

"The truth seems to be that the USA military and president jointly created fake news and it is without doubt a rare scandal in United States history, which will be bound to cripple Trump's and U.S. dignity", it said. With South Korea's dense population, the potential havoc from a North Korean missile strike is "unreal", he said.

Statements of that vein do not help the situation, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.

The warning comes ahead of some of the first group trips to depart for North Korea from Israel.

Also complicating matters: The unpredictability of President Donald Trump, who earlier this month tweeted that the USA welcomed China's help in resolving the crisis, then added, "If not, we will solve the problem without them!" While Israelis could previously visit North Korea by obtaining visas with Chinese tour agencies, Tarbutu, an arm of Rimon Tours, has won the exclusive right to secure visas in Israel from the North Korean state tour company. "North Korea is without question one of the most intriguing countries in the world today", he said in a statement, "It is a closed country, cut off from the world, including its neighbors".

"Mr President, we and you ought not now to pull the ends of the rope in which you have tied the knot of war, because the more the two of us pull, the tighter the knot will be tied".
