That means Williams was pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January, further adding to her reputation as one of the greatest athletes of all time.
The timing would suggest she was around eight weeks pregnant for the final.
In 2016, Williams shared another photo in which she's clad in a vibrant daffodil hue, that time while riding a horse on a tropical vacation she took after losing in the U.S. Open semifinals.
Serena Williams shocked fans on Wednesday when she posted a shot on Snapchat indicating she is pregnant. Her record of 39 major titles puts her third on the all-time list and second in the open era: 23 in singles, 14 in women's doubles, and 2 in mixed doubles.
In addition to Clijsters, Evonne Goolagong and Margaret Court also won Grand Slams after becoming mothers. Ironically, the complexities of the ranking system mean that she will climb one place to No1 next week without even playing.
"Rather unbelievably there are no rules about physical activity - intense or otherwise - during pregnancy", says Maria McHale, health journalist and editor of Sláinte fitness magazine.
A spokesperson for the tennis player later confirmed the American was pregnant. She, of course, announced it all on Reddit. "Tennis is a high-impact sport where there is a heightened risk of collision or falling".
In pregnancy, a woman's center of gravity shifts forward to accommodate the growing fetus, which could affect Williams' stance.
Starting at about six months of pregnancy, a woman's balance shifts. "There will become a point when I will have to stop but I think I will slow down gradually".
Sister Venus, 36, has won seven Grand Slam singles titles.
The professional tennis player incorporates the tone into her everyday wardrobe as well.
In a unusual oddity in the rankings Williams will climb back to the world number one spot on Monday, despite three months of inactivity. From Sonia O'Sullivan to British athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, many top athletes seamlessly rejoin the physical fray after childbirth.
She then went on to win the Australian Open in January, beating sister Venus for her seventh title at Melbourne Park.
