We hope to provide the same championship experience as we did in 2014 and excited to start the planning process.
"We are honored to be chosen as hosts of the NCAA National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship for the second time", Quinnipiac Director of Athletics and Recreation Greg Amodio said in a press release.
This will take place in Pegula Ice Area from March 18-20, with two semifinal games and the national championship. The Women's Frozen Four began in 2001 and Clarkson won the 2017 title. Another suggestion was to have one division named "South" and the other one "Souther.' I guess we can't throw stones, you know, with the whole 'Legends and Leaders" deal. The facility - and Division I hockey at Penn State - came to fruition from the generosity of Terry and Kim Pegula.
In 2019, the East Regional will be hosted by Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., the Midwest Regional will be held at PPL Center, Allentown, Pa. and the West Regional will be played at Scheels Center, Fargo, N.D. Coincidentally, the 2022 Frozen Four will be held in Boston.
That continues what has been a safe, established rotation for the two Eastern regionals.
The Frozen Four is officially coming back to Pittsburgh - a year earlier than expected.
"Penn State prides itself on providing exceptional championship experiences for student-athletes", said Assistant AD Michael Cross, who oversees the men's and women's hockey programs.
The University of New Hampshire's Whittemore Center will host the Northeast Regional Gymnastics tournament on April 3, 2021.
"Following the success of hosting the American Hockey League's All Star Classic this past January, this is another tremendous opportunity to showcase PPL Center and the entire Lehigh Valley to hockey fans across the world", said Jim Brooks, owner, BDH Development and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The facility has a hockey capacity of 8,420, with a standing room capacity of more than 9,000. "We look forward to creating memories that will last a lifetime for the teams and fans in attendance". (The men's regionals are routinely held at off-campus facilities.) The Lehigh Valley rink is almost a three-hour drive from Pegula Ice Arena, but that's still considerably closer than the last Midwest Regional that was held in Cincinnati (seven-hour drive).

In addition to the Frozen Four announcement, the NCAA also revealed regional sites for the 2018 and 2019 tournaments.
