EU says China, Europe have interest in averting Korea crisis

The Trump administration is focusing its strategy on tougher economic sanctions, possibly including an oil embargo, a global ban on its airline, intercepting cargo ships and punishing Chinese banks doing business with Pyongyang.
However President Trump has also repeatedly warned he would "solve" North Korea if China decided not to help.

"If we notice any sign of assault on our sovereignty, our army will launch merciless military strikes against the United States aggressors, wherever they may exist, from the remote U.S. lands to the American military bases on the Korean Peninsula, such as those of Japan and elsewhere".
"Just in the past two weeks, the world witnessed the strength and resolve of our new president in actions taken in Syria and Afghanistan", Pence said at a press conference.
"Russia is slowing this down, and it is not clear why", an unnamed diplomat apparently familiar with the negotiations told CBS News.
Asked whether he had ruled out the possibility of launching a military strike against North Korea, Trump said he did not wish to reveal his plans.
"I think [Obama] left a more risky world", Barry Pavel told Fox News.
Pence told Abe that the Japan-U.S. alliance is the "cornerstone" of peace and security in Northeast Asia and the Trump administration places a high value on its commitment to the region through the alliance.

The unannounced trip allowed the vice president, whose father fought in the Korean War, to look at North Korean soldiers from afar and gaze directly across a border marked by razor wire. Everybody has been outplayed.
"We support the U.S. putting pressure on Chinese banks to ensure that the elites in North Korea can not continue to live the comfortable lives that they now do while the people of North Korea are suffering".
He also said North Korea believes its nuclear weapons protect it from the threat of United States military action.
United States Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Japan for the second leg of his four-nation Asia tour.
"That deployment of such a defence system reflects a strong defence and security alliance between South Korea and the USA and is a direct response to the threat posed by North Korea", she said.
In response, Abe called for the need to pressure North Korea to engage in dialogue.
He also underlined the importance to exert diplomatic efforts and reach a peaceful compromise to the crisis.
