Browns ownership releases statement on Dan Rooney's passing

Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered the commonwealth flag to fly at half-staff throughout Pennsylvania to honor Dan Rooney, long-time owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former United States ambassador to Ireland.

In his statement, Davis highlighted Rooney's dedication to improving the NFL and his dedication to diversifying the league, per the Raiders official website.

The Penguins' players wore special decals on their helmets that had the Steelers logo on them and read, "Dan Rooney, 1933 to 2007".

David Morehouse, the Penguins' president and CEO, said Rooney "personified everything that's good about Pittsburgh. Dan Rooney and his family, like the Maras, provided the foundation for the National Football League that we all see today", Giants chairman and executive vie president Steve Tisch said in a separate statement. From a personal standpoint, I was honored to call him a friend and always appreciated his unwavering support of the Penguins. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with Patricia, Art, the Rooney family and the entire Steelers organization. Mr. Rooney was a champion and a true Pittsburgh icon. "He impacted many of our lives, and he left a legacy that makes us all proud to be Pittsburghers".
