Ronaldo hat trick puts Madrid into Champions League semis

Cristiano Ronaldo praised the winning mentality of Real Madrid after his hat-trick helped defeat Bayern Munich 4-2 following extra-time at the Bernabeu as the holders' booked a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Müller was offside during Ramos' own goal, just like Cristiano Ronaldo for his first goal, Vidal was sent off for a tackle that wasn't even a foul.

Ronaldo put Madrid level at 2-2 on the night in the first period of extra time when he scored his 100th Champions League goal, from a clearly offside position, before he wrapped up his treble and Asensio added a fourth.

"This robbery can not happen in the Champions League, it was clearly noticeable and it starts to make you doubt [the game] a bit", Vidal said.

Real, seeking to make it a record seventh straight Champions League semi-final appearance, finally came alive as the half-hour mark approached when Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer pushed behind a low drive from defender Dani Carvajal.

Bayern, the 2013 Champions League victor, had made it at least to the semifinals for the last five seasons.

Afterwards the Bayern manager, Carlo Ancelotti, called for the introduction of video assistant referees and suggested that his Real counterpart, Zinedine Zidane, had agreed his side had been harshly treated.

"We had a lot of chances". It's clear we're not happy with this.

"More than the second yellow, or the offside goals, the six goals we scored over the two games we deserved to go through in the tie". "I'm not surprised. He should rewind and look back to the PSG game and see if he thinks the same about the referees". "It goes both ways, that is football", said Zidane.

Though he was offside for both his second and third goals, nothing can be taken away from the sharpness and cleverness Ronaldo showed with his movement that proves his reputation of being a match victor.

"Now, Madrid continue and I wish Zizou and his side all the best".
