Reyes' error helps Phillies beat scuffling Mets 6-2 in 10

The Mets brought in Jerry Blevins to face the Phillies switch hitter and Blanco hit a ground rule double into left field to score Rupp and even the score. The Mets have now lost back-to-back series to Miami, after winning all 5 against them last season. The throw to the plate beat Joseph, but d'Arnaud couldn't handle the bouncing ball as the Phillies' first baseman slid in.

The Phillies, rested from their day off following a heartbreaking walk-off loss to the Washington Nationals, played their first game of the season in Citi Field tonight against a Mets team that swept them just last week. Saunders advanced to third on a single by Tommy Joseph and trotted home on Rupp's fly out to the warning track in right field.

"It was so unlike Freddy to do something like that", Mackanin said.

Galvis reached first on the error, with Rupp advancing to third.

Things started off well in the top of the first, when Odubel Herrera hit his first Home Run of the season, giving the Phillies an early lead. a lead which disappeared nearly immediately. "It happens. It's one of those things".

Galvis (hitting.174 at the time) then redeemed himself with a hit, and Aaron Altherr knocked in another run with a single. "This game can get you". On the downside, Curtis Granderson (.174) and Jose Reyes (.087) continue to slump in the early going.

"My mind is fine, I want to do good, I want to help my ballclub as much as I can", Reyes said. Odubel Herrera homered in the first and was one of three Phillies - along with Hernandez and Saunders - to finish with two hits.

A fifth and final single from Daniel Nava capped off the inning by scoring an additional two runs, giving the Phillies a four run cushion.

"It's frustrating that we've dropped four in a row", Mets manager Terry Collins said, "but we'll dig out of it, we'll get through it".

The 23-year-old started the year on the 10-day disabled list before beginning a rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater. Buchholz underwent surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss four to six months.

With All-Star closer Jeurys Familia set to return from a domestic violence suspension Thursday, the Mets' bullpen was beaten again after Zack Wheeler pitched five solid innings. The Phillies also purchased the contract of RHP Mark Leiter Jr. and placed LF Howie Kendrick (right abdominal strain) on the 10-day DL.
