Politics hasn't stopped the growth of Ivanka Inc

"In addition to winning the approvals from China, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC applied for at least nine new trademarks in the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canada and the USA after the election", the Associated Press reports.

To top it all off, she celebrated securing provisional approval for a monopoly on Ivanka-related jewelry, bags and spa services in China by enjoying a steak dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinxing that same night at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Ivanka Trump has distanced herself from her retail brand since her father won the presidential election in November 2016, but sales of her products have continued to surge. Norman Eisen, who served as Barack Obama's chief White House ethics lawyer, says he would "never have allowed it".

During the week of the summit between Xi and the president, 3.4 tons of Ivanka's handbags, wallets and blouses entered the United States from Hong Kong and Shanghai, the report said, while imports of her goods surged 40 percent in the first quarter of this year. Her firm is valued at upwards of $50 million with more than 1,000 stores carrying her products in addition to e-commerce platforms like Amazon. Apparently, Ivanka (or Yi Wan Ka, as she is lovingly called in the Middle Kingdom) had three trademarks approved in China. President Trump, notably, has tempered his rhetoric on China and trade - and one could reasonably ask whether the presidential shift had anything to do with the family business. She still owns the company, and since the election, her brand applied for several new trademarks in the Philippines, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S.

A lawyer for Trump told AP that she was not legally obliged to step back from larger issues, such as trade with China: "The ethics rules restrict participation in "particular matters" that focus on the interests of a discrete and identifiable class".

Since President Donald Trump was elected to office, many have voiced concern that the links between his organization and his status as leader of the free world are suspiciously murky, creating opportunity for severe ethics violations.

NORDSTROM INC.: No longer carries the brand's clothing and accessories because it says sales had declined. The fact that Ivanka Trump has a successful business does not sit well with those on the left side of the aisle.

Though like her father, Ivanka has made feeble attempts at pretending she would distance herself from the ethical minefield of mixing her business with politics, it increasingly seems that untangling the two is about as high on Ivanka's priority list as actually promoting women's rights. Other than being the daughter of the president and the president's moral compass, which is also really weird, what the fuck is she doing in the White House?!

The Trump family may be turning into a Bush- or Clinton-type dynasty before America's eyes, and those eyes should be keenly trained on the family's evolving business interests. "All that buzz is hardwired to her products".

Her attorney, Jamie Gorelick, told CNN last month that the assets have been moved into a trust - the best choice from a hard series of options.
