North Idaho teen found safe; in custody as runaway

Orofino police say 17-year-old Kristian Perez's mother told police she hadn't heard from her son since he left Orofino High School's prom around 9: 30 p.m. Saturday.

Now, FOX affiliate KNIN reports, "After receiving a tip, police found him in a home in Orofino and took him into custody on a runaway charge".

Update: In an update Monday afternoon, Orofino Police say they are continuing to investigate Kristian Perez's disappearance and say they have obtained phone records and text message's from the teen's phone and are now going through those records to determine if any of that information can be used to help locate Perez.

Perez was found shortly before 1 a.m.at a home on Indio Avenue in Orofino. Police say they are investigating and say Imel may face criminal charges for helping Perez. His disappearance drew statewide attention after authorities said his broken cellphone, his tuxedo jacket and one shoe were found near a relative's vehicle.

Information related to this case can be provided to OPD, 476-5551. Using a canine tracking team, investigators believe Perez walked west from the prom location at the National Guard Armory into a nearby parking lot along U.S. Highway 12 where it is believed he may have entered a vehicle. There was a possible sighting of Perez in the Lewiston area, about an hour away from Orofino.

Orofino police confirmed the teen had signed out of the prom at 9:32pm.
