Kasperi Kapanen scored his second goal of the game 11:53 into the second overtime, Frederik Andersen made 47 saves and Toronto beat Washington in Game 2 to even the first-round series. As the Predators took a 2-0 series lead with a 5-0 victory, the Finnish netminder recorded a pair of assists along with 30 saves. "But we had several looks, could've turned them into quality [chances], that we didn't take advantage of".
Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 29 shots in the loss. However, the Blackhawks haven't scored a goal in either game, and have barely shown any fight. The goalie also logged assists on two of Nashville's five goals in the game-two blowout - Number four and five in his playoff career. The stage was clearly set for another trek to the Cup for the Blackhawks. Second-year pros Artemi Panarin and Richard Panik, they've never won a playoff series with the Hawks. This thing's not over yet.
The Blackhawks basically annexed the Predators' defensive zone through most of the last two periods.
Quenneville shook up his lines and pairings to give them some life in the third, but it was far too little, far too late, as Ryan Johansen and Kevin Fiala tacked on goals to put it away. "I tried to get as much on it and luckily it found a way through". And I am sure that Pred Nation would love it if Chicago pundits would keep on writing about how Rinne is no longer elite.
The Predators opened up the first round in Chicago on Thursday, winning 1-0.
To say the Blackhawks have been outplayed is an understatement.
Quenneville said he wanted to see more traffic in front of the net in Game 2 to make Rinne's job hard. They really let the Predators take over in game two, which is unbecoming of a team of their calibre.
See above? If Kane and Toews don't start leading the way for Chicago, it's hard to see them mounting a comeback against the Predators. For instance, I saw Niklas Hjalmarsson, rather than firing the puck into a Predator's shin pads, direct his point shot wide of the net to create a favourable bounce off the boards. A fantastic defense corp, most of all. If the Hawks want any chance of moving on they're gonna need to get into the habit of scoring some goals and quickly.
"The greatest thing is using our speed and coming through the neutral zone with speed", Keith said.
More importantly, though, Nashville's ability to control puck possession against Chicago is finally paying off.
They stuck to that script at practice Friday and worked on tips, deflections, and plays in front of the net in anticipation of getting more physical in that area Saturday.
After shuffling their lines a bit after game 1, the Blackhawks were blown out of the water in game 2 as Nashville dominated the game.
Nashville is headed home, where they have, historically, been significantly better than on the road.
