Guardians of the Galaxy introduced a post-credits scene featuring a cameo from cult comics character Howard the Duck, but its sequel appears to be going the extra mile. "All I'll say is, unless you have to rush out because your mother is dying, stay through the entire end credits", he tweeted last month when a fan asked about post-credits scenes.
While many of us won't get to see the film until May, many critics had the opportunity to screen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
With five post-credits scenes, it's likely at least one will be played for comedic effect.
The social media savvy director took to Twitter to clarify reports of the number of post-credits scenes moviegoers should expect.
"I think ultimately the best part is moving past that stuff, which both he and I understand is pretty meaningless".
Directed and written by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is produced by Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" premieres May 5. It's no surprise that James Gunn announced yesterday that he would be back for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
"There are a lot of similarities there and things we can relate to".
Every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far has a "fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that more critics have liked these films than disliked them.
We're used to seeing post-credit scenes in Marvel's superhero movies.
After fan see the movie, the question will be about if Gunn will outdo himself next time. There will undoubtedly be nods to upcoming films Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War included. "We're just two guys that met on the subway, you know!"
Guardians stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker, plus new addition Kurt Russell, joined Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show Monday night.
