What Le Pen was apparently trying to say is that the French government doing the bidding of their Nazi puppet matters bears responsibility for the atrocity as distinguished from the French citizenry.
According to Politico.eu, Le Pen has framed her economic policies such as "parallel currencies, a renegotiation of France's European Union membership and a potential referendum on the euro - in a way that resonates with citizen's concerns, promising "intelligent protectionism" against the uncontrollable forces of globalization, ".
Le Pen Senior, who founded the FN in 1972 and is estranged from his daughter, has been convicted repeatedly for anti-Semitic and racist comments such as calling the Holocaust a "detail of history".
Most were crammed into the Velodrome d'Hiver cycling stadium, commonly known as the Vel d'Hiv, before being deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Polls show far-left Melenchon closing in on the frontrunners, 39-year-old centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen ahead of the April 23 vote, adding new drama to a rollercoaster campaign.
"On the one side, it's an historical and political mistake".
Following both unexpected events, "Brexit" and the election of USA president Donald Trump, Le Pen seeks to restructure "France's affairs" - by the time two-third of the French voters didn't make their final decision.
Ms Le Pen's campaign manager David Rachline said on Twitter that local authorities had not done enough to secure the venue and had allowed far-left "militia" to come too close. She has instead targeted Muslims, voicing fears their civilization will upend that of France.
She argued that her position had been the position of France's heads of state, including de Gaulle, until former Chirac "wrongly" acknowledged the state's role in Jewish persecution during World War II.
She added: 'I think that generally speaking if there are people responsible, it's those who were in power at the time.
Her attempt to persuade voters that her party had reformed its views was hit last month, when one of its counselors was suspended over allegations of Holocaust denial, after he was caught on camera playing down the systematic murder of six million Jews.
"This contradicts the historical truth as expressed in statements by French presidents who recognised the country's responsibility for the fate of the French Jews who perished in the Holocaust", a ministry spokesman said.
Melenchon addressed supporters in Marseille, portraying himself as the candidate of peace and criticizing President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel for backing US airstrikes in Syria.
"It makes me throw up", Lassalle said on Franceinfo radio.
Bruno Jeanbart, of the OpinionWay polling institute, said Le Pen had taken a "risk" because the remarks could associate her with her father, even though they "were not ambiguous".
