Emerging from a "consultative" meeting chaired by Palaniswami, finance minister D. Jayakumar declared that this "unanimous" decision was taken in tune with the aspirations of the party cadres and people.
According to "Jaya Plus" Tamil TV channel, Dhinakaran said a "good decision" will be taken in the interest of the party. Dhinakaran has convened a meeting of party MLAs in Chennai today. "Because it was T.T.V. Dinakaran, who gave a new direction to the AIADMK", party leader Nanzhil Sampath said here.
In a shocking turn of political developments, AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala, who is convicted in DA case and serving her sentence in Bengaluru jail, has been suspended from the party.
He also said the families of Dinakaran and Sasikala had undergone sufferings and also contributed to the party's growth. "We met the Speaker [of the Tamil Nadu Assembly] and demanded an immediate Assembly session". We all want to continue the legacy of late Amma and at the same time want to save the party's symbol of two leaves. "The party and government should not be in the control of a family as people will hate such a system", he added. "When they make such sudden announcement there must be some fear", he said. Last night's decision by several senior ministers clears the way for two rival factions of the party to begin merger talks.
Thambidurai responded to a poser on making Panneerselvam the Chief Minister after merger. After the meet a section of ministers revolted against TTV Dinakaran, saying that they will save AIADMK from the clutches of a single family. The alleged attempt to bribe EC officials and undermine its integrity threatens the roots of our democratic institutions.
No arrest warrant has been issued against Dhinakaran.
The AIADMK split into two after former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's death.
He also tries to assure harmony between the two factions. There were reports that he might try to flee the country, police said.
The Ministers said they would discuss the possibility of merger with OPS camp after Mr. Dhinakaran comes back to Chennai. "This only shows how the AIADMK has been able to adapt itself to the changing political requirements", he said. "How does a broker or somebody say the money was from TTV Dhinakaran?" We started a fight to oust Sasikala's family. I don't know any such person. "If that is my destiny, I will face it and come out", he added. He was apparently referring to the pending FERA cases against him in a court here in connection with which he has surrendered his passport.
Presently, he is under the police custody and further interrogation is on by the officials. Although only a dozen MLAs attended the meeting, the consent of most Ministers and legislators had been secured, the legislator claimed.
