Will Tony Romo actually play for Dallas Mavericks vs

Romo was a former all-state basketball player in Wisconsin during his high school days, and Gathers went to Baylor on a basketball scholarship and became their all-time leading rebounder before eventually making the switch to football.

The Dallas Mavericks honored recently retired Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on Tuesday by having him participate in shootaround, pose for a team photo, join the layup line pregame and "almost" check into their game against the Denver Nuggets. Sure. (Maverick "Romo" jerseys sold out in the first quarter.) Was it a clever distraction from a team that was perhaps intentionally losing games, to better their draft picks in the off-season?

"Signing him and stuff like that, would have been too much for a lot of reasons", Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. Many experts have a slight feeling that Tony Romo may fetch a call or two next season by a team (or teams) that need a quarterback, and Romo may just answer that call with "I'm on my way!"

"Standing here today, I feel a little embarrassed, to be honest, in the sense that you're lucky enough to be in a position that someone cares enough to do something to honor you".

"I feel like they're all seven feet tall", Romo says.

Roughly an hour before Tuesday's tip-off between the Mavericks and Denver Nuggets, inside the practice gym with only a handful of fans able to watch peering through a restaurant window, Romo and Nowitzki went through shooting drills. "The Cowboys obviously have been my life for 14 years". "Great competitor, winner, plays hurt, the whole thing".

"I'm just sitting on the bench", Romo said with a laugh, cameras snapped furiously as he was introduced at a press conference. And I've got to live with that.

Although fans clamored for Romo to enter the game, it was reveled later on that Cuban had discussed with Commissioner Adam Silver the possibility of him actually playing.

But he's already said he'll return next season for his 20th and possibly his final season in the NBA.In his farewell to his 19th season, Nowitzki poured in a game-high 21 points in just 27 minutes against the Nuggets.

While some scoffed that Romo was only bound to injure himself again, or that he must have gone through the Make-a-Wish Foundation to make this happen, others were so legitimately excited to see Romo suit up for the Mavs that they did a little online roster editing.
