Pearl Jam inducted to Hall of Fame

Pearl Jam were due to be inducted by Neil Young, but he fell sick, so former talk show host David Letterman filled in. Joan Baez was then inducted by Jackson Browne before she performed her three tunes, ending with "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down".

Pearl Jam's current drummer, Matt Cameron, returned for the next two songs, "Given to Fly" and "Better Man".

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament wore a shirt paying tribute to all the bands that influenced him and the rest of the band that he felt are being snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "I can't begin to tell you what an honor and a privilege it is for me to be out of the house, honest to God", he said.

His wife, Jill, was teary-eyed in the audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as fans continued to cheer. He also revealed that frontman Eddie Vedder had personally gifted a guitar to his son. The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series.

No stranger to Rock Hall speeches, when it was his turn at the mic Eddie Vedder spoke at length about climate change, his family, Letterman and even Chance the Rapper.

Snoop Dogg accepted an award on behalf of the late Tupac Shakur and said that beyond being a great friend, Shakur was "the greatest rapper of all time". They would recognize injustice and they would stand up for it. And were confused as well: why wouldn't he want to perform those songs, one more time.

Let's get this out of the way first - Steve Perry did NOT perform with Journey.

The Journey reunion was short-lived, however, as fans and attendees were disappointed Perry didn't participate in the band's set at the ceremony, which included performances of Separate Ways, Lights and Don't Stop Believin'. David Letterman will induct Pearl Jam in his stead. "My granddaughter had no clue who I was until I took her backstage at a Taylor Swift concert". Also on stage were: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush, Trevor Rabin of Yes and Neal Schon of Journey, among others.

Following a tribute video including statements about Berry's influence from Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney, new inductees ELO played their version of "Roll Over Beethoven" to honor Berry. I feel maybe we're halfway there to deserving an accolade of this kind of stature ...

HBO will air the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremon on April 29.
