Both teams seem locked in - even JaVale McGee looks like he knows what he's doing out there. The Warriors have not faced the Trail Blazers with Nurkic on the roster, but his availability for Game 1 is uncertain as he recovers from a fracture in his right leg.
Game 1 of the Warriors first round matchup with the Trail Blazers was a close game wire to wire with the energy level ratcheting up with the start of the playoffs. And Portland got that from both Lillard and McCollum. But the Wizards, seeded fourth in the East after missing the playoffs a year ago, out-scored Atlanta 38-28 in the third and led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter. There was a little of everything: physical play, trash talk, deep 3-pointers, monster blocked shots and dazzling dunks. "My teammates did a great job of finding me for open shots". He switched up that team and they doubled those guys a lot more in the second half.
Shabazz Napier scored 25 points despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter for the Trail Blazers, who saw the end to a three-game winning streak.
"His all-around dominance in the fourth quarter helped the Warriors turn an 88-88 tie into a runaway victory."
A tough draw by the Blazers can be somewhat mitigated if they find the equation to stifle the Warriors' guards.
Curry and Thompson are one of the best, if not the best, shooting backcourts the National Basketball Association has ever seen.
And after a knee injury to Durant and a troubling early-March swoon this season, they finished the regular season on a fearsome run. Right there, that hurt us.
Before the All-Star break, the Blazers were 23-33 and it looked as if they were headed to the draft lottery in the offseason. "You've got to limit their runs and easy buckets". "They're feeling really good about themselves". "Took advantage of some plays, some turnovers, some run-outs". "They're a completely different team with him in there". "I like our chances", Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard boasted before his club flew into Oakland.
Lillard, once again playing in his hometown of Oakland, went 12-of-26 for 34 points, five rebounds and three assists in 39 minutes.
Ian Clark also made the most of his 12 minutes on the court. Lillard is averaging a career-best 27 points per game on a career-high shooting percentage. Al Horford had 19 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for Boston.
On the season, the Trail Blazers are averaging 109.7 points, 43.7 rebounds and 21.1 assists per game. "We let them get to their spots in the first half", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. That's just what the game tells you to do, to respect your opponent.
Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trailblazers has been everything we hoped for so far.
