All hail! Wright crowns d'Arnaud after Mets beat Braves

Bartolo Colon, a fan favorite at Citi Field the past three years, makes his Atlanta Braves debut when he starts the second game of the season against his former Mets teammates in NY.

Last July, as Harvey's nightmarish season was nearing its end, he could barely feel the baseball in his hand. Harvey underwent surgery for the ailment, which is caused by a compression of the nerves and/or blood vessels somewhere between the neck and armpit.

The Mets insisted Harvey could succeed at the lower RPMs, but the vote of confidence was intended mostly for the ticket buyers.

New York Mets' Travis d'Arnaud speaks to the media after a baseball game with the Atlanta Braves in New York on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

But when Harvey debuted in the Grapefruit League, the results weren't there. The forecast calls for temperatures in the 40s and a possibility of rain. It looked like those pitches went right into their swings when they came back over the plate. "He just got better and better as the spring went along". "I mean, there's a lot of people that respect him very much. I think it's real important that we get these guys in some kind of routine".

NEW YORK (AP) - Matt Harvey dominated with a fastball in the mid-90 miles per hour range and uncommon efficiency in his return from major surgery, beating the Atlanta Braves 6-2 Thursday night and giving the New York Mets hope his injury woes are behind him.

The following year was where things began to break apart for Harvey. "I think the struggles in spring training (0-4, 5.89 ERA) definitely were there, obviously, in the back of my mind". He pitched 18 1/3 innings and in his last spring start on March 26, the velocity was noticeably better as it reached 97 miles per hour.

NY tacked on two more in the seventh as Asdrubal Cabrera had an RBI single and Jose Reyes scored on an Atlanta error. Yes, he gave up two home runs to Matt Kemp but no one was on the bases. Although the Mets won, Harvey, for the second straight game, could not reach the four innings pitched mark, and gave up five runs.

New York's bullpen also pitched well, with the exception of Rafael Montero. With Tim Tebow going deep in his first minor-league at-bat, Harvey's feat didn't evoke the most gasps. (Kemp now has 3 career homeruns off of Harvey in 9 at-bats) It was Harvey's 77th and final pitch of the game as he was lifted to a standing ovation.

We'll see whether Harvey can turn back the clock, but the Mets had to be pleased at what they saw Thursday night. "He goes out there and tries to dominate".

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Mets are -155 money line favorites versus the Braves, who have odds of +140 to pull off the upset this evening. The longtime St. Louis Cardinals starter was traded to Atlanta last December.

As soon as he debuted in Spring Training of 1997, Colon showed off his skills as a slim fire-hurling rookie with the Indians, putting him immediately in the running to become Cleveland's fifth starter.

The 37-year-old Howard wasn't signed by the Philadelphia Phillies after last season. "There's some of those sinkers, he throws that are gone". He's a good enough - and smart enough - pitcher to thrive with a four-pitch arsenal that had Atlanta off balance all night long.
