"We're now having dessert, and we had the most handsome piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen, and President Xi was enjoying it", Trump, 70, said.
President Donald Trump waxed lyrical about his good "chemistry" and "bonding" with Chinese leader Xi Jinping Wednesday - a rhetorical U-turn which the White House believes is already paying dividends.
Trump said he also told Xi that the "way you're (China is) going to make a good trade deal is to help us with North Korea".
Trump added that he told Xi that the United States had "just fired 59 missiles. heading to Iraq", incorrectly identifying the country he was striking when relaying the story to Bartiromo. We've all been forgetful one time or another, even if not about where we launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles just a few days ago.
"I hope the administration realizes that when Trump says, "if they won't do it, I will", which is the tone if not his exact words, it has to be consistent with what our regional allies can accept", Stevenson says. "'And I want you to know that.' Because I didn't want him to go home, we were nearly finished, it was a full day in Palm Beach, we're nearly finished, what does he do, finish his dessert and go home and they say "you know the guy you just had dinner with just attacked a country".
Fox Business's Maria Bartiromo then corrected him, asking if he meant "heading to Syria". Meanwhile, Twitter has found it somewhat concerning that Trump remembered more about the chocolate cake he was eating than the country he was bombing.
In Wednesday's phone conversation, Trump said the meeting with Xi at Mar-a-Lago was a success. We had a great chemistry, I think ... Trump laid part of the blame for the horrific mass murder on the Obama presidency, claiming that the attack was "a effect of the past administration's weakness and irresolution".
Trump also told the Journal, "You can not allow a country like that to have ... nuclear weapons".
Trump said he needed to tell Xi of the attack as they were dining because Xi was about to go home after "a full day in Palm Beach", and Trump didn't want him to learn the news when he got back to China.
After hearing the news, the Chinese president was speechless for 10 seconds, Trump said.
Here's quite possibly the most head-scratching part of it, Trump on bombing "Iraq".
As a billionaire, you would think that Trump must have seen some pretty decent cake in his time so this is really saying something.
