Pepe joyful to play waiting game for prospective new Real Madrid deal

Speaking after Saturday's 1-1 home draw with fierce rivals Atletico Madrid, the 34-year-old told AS: "Only God knows where my future lies".

Rivals Manchester City and Chelsea have also made contact over Griezmann's situation at Atletico Madrid, as have Barcelona.

Sergio Ramos has said the club's "doors are always open" to the best players, putting Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann among that group.

The France global has played down talk of a move to United though, questioning whether he would be able to settle in England after spending his entire professional career in Spain.

'You never know what will happen in football but jumping from Atletico to Real, I do not think it is very feasible. Now, French newspaper L'Equipe say that they have added Griezmann to the list of their targets. We are happy to get these calls but for now, I am happy here and in a good mood. "I only have words of admiration and respect; he does everything that is humanly possible to ensure that Real Madrid fans are happy and united as one".

Very few players have made the direct switch from Atletico to Madrid, but former Mexico worldwide Hugo Sanchez did so in the 1980s and ex-Argentina global Santiago Solari in 2000, while Raul Gonzalez had started out as a youth player at the Vicente Calderon.

Having joined Los Blancos from Porto 10 years ago, Pepe has enjoyed a successful decade at the Bernabeu and though many top European clubs have shown an interest in signing him this summer, the defender insists he is ready to wait until the last second for an offer to come along from his current employers.
