The New York Mets will be looking to build on their current 3 game winning streak, including victories in their first two outings in this series, highlighted by a 14-4 rout of the Phils in game 2.
Harvey cruised past the Atlanta Braves on Thursday in his first meaningful start since undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome surgery previous year, allowing two runs on just three hits over 6 2/3 innings. He connected to deep left in the fourth off reliever Adam Morgan and drove another one way out to left in the fifth against Morgan.
Through the first seven games of the season, Cespedes struggled, going just 4-for-26 (.154) with one home run and one RBI.
In homering three times at Citizens Bank Park, Cespedes has now homered at this park more than any other in which he did not play road games, and eight of his 15 hits here have left the yard while 11 have gone for extra bases.
After the game Mets manager Terry Collins said it was a cramp and they were confident he would make his next start. "You have to let him work through it", he said. Mackanin was quickly thereafter run by home plate umpire Alan Porter.
Harvey (2-0) left with tightness in his left hamstring after allowing two runs and five hits and striking out six in 52/3 innings. He absolutely went off on the Phillies, homering in his first three at-bats on a day that ultimately saw the Mets go yard seven times.
After the Mets won 4-3, Christie tweeted: "Thanks for the tribute tonight". It certainly wasn't a meaningless bit of showboating - the Mets would go on to tie the Giants for the first Wild Card spot, one game ahead of St. Louis - so Cabrera's dinger arguably made the difference for playoff qualification. Cabrera launched a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning last September 22 at Citi Field in a 9-8 Mets win.
Mets: RHP Matt Harvey (1-0, 2.70 ERA) makes his second start of the season in the second game of the three-game series Tuesday night.
"Covering first I ran over and I took my last step and it kind of cramped up", Harvey said.
No one can take away Granderson's almost MVP-worthy 2015 season when he hit.259/.364/.457 with 98 runs, 33 doubles, 26 home runs, 70 RBIs, 11 stolen bags and 91 walks, finishing in the top-20 in the NL MVP vote in the process. He only struck out three batters while allowing eight hits and walked two.
Cespedes said through an interpreter, "I was feeling really good (in batting practice)".
Indians 2, White Sox 1 Michael Brantley doubled home Francisco Lindor with two outs in the 10th inning as Cleveland celebrated its 2016 AL championship and then beat Chicago.
