House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the plug GOP-backed American Health Care Act from consideration on March 24 when it became clear it didn't have the votes to pass.
Another Freedom Caucus member criticized by Trump, Rep. Jim Jordan of OH, said the GOP health care legislation was not only poorly done, but rushed, broadly unpopular and opposed by moderates as well as conservatives.
White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney was also in the golf outing to discuss the issue.
There still hasn't been a breakthrough on health care despite President Donald Trump's continued claim that lawmakers are getting closer and closer to making one.
Paul said that part of the issue with the House Republican plan to repeal Obamacare was that the different factions of the party couldn't come up with an agreement on how to replace it. Paul Rand, on Sunday, said that he is "very optimistic" about replacing and repealing Obamacare soon.
Earlier in March, Paul and House Freedom Caucus founding member Jim Jordan of OH pushed legislation in both chambers that would mirror the repeal bill that Congress passed through the budget reconciliation process in 2015 but that President Barack Obama vetoed.
On the Thursday prior, the president lashed out at group of House Republicans saying that "the Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast", Trump tweeted on Thursday. According to the White House's pool report, the trio spent the day at Trump's Washington D.C. area golf course to talk on a "variety of topics" including healthcare reform.
"Jake, tweets and statements and blame don't change facts, and the facts remain the same".
How else do we explain his erratic way of winning friends and alienating people as he pursues support for an Obamacare replacement?
Trump social media director Dan Scavino on Saturday urged a primary challenge against Representative Justin Amash of MI.
Trump is "bringing auto plants & jobs back to Michigan", Scavino tweeted. And if we don't get the.Freedom Caucus there that would be fine.
Jordan defended Amash on Sunday and said he would come to his aid in a primary challenge. Sunday's trip marks the ninth weekend Trump has visited one of his namesake properties as President. Spicer has also pointed out that Trump has not played golf every time he visited one of his courses, instead conducting official business in the clubhouses, such as hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and meeting with some Cabinet officials and senior staff at his Virginia golf course.
"... I will get the Democrats if I go the second way", Trump said.
President Trump stepped up his threats to cut a deal with Democrats over healthcare if conservatives in the House won't back his proposals.
An analysis from Republican pollster Chris Wilson of WPA Research, who worked for Texas Sen.
Even if Trump hopes there will be a deal, time is running out and members have a growing list of to-dos on their legislative calendar including keeping the government funded by April 28.
