Carrie Fisher, the late actress who brought to life one of the most beloved characters in the "Star Wars" galaxy, was honored with a touching video tribute at the start of Star Wars Celebration today in Orlando.
The 24-year-old has been laying low since losing her mum Carrie and grandmother Debbie Reynolds within a day of one another in late December (16), and she skipped a public memorial for the two screen icons in Los Angeles on 25 March (17).
"She loved you because you embraced all of her", said daughter Billie Lourd, in a very Princess Leia-esque white gown. "She was imperfect in many ways, but her imperfections and willingness to speak about them are what made her more than flawless".
"I love her", Hamill said. "She loved you. She loved these movies. We'll all love her forever and ever", Lourd said. "I wanted to be here with you because I know you feel the same way".
Lourd offered up some signature lessons from her mother, first with a ideal rendition of Leia's signature "you're my only hope" speech, followed by the kind of life lessons only Fisher could impart. "She taught me by her own example, that the most evolved person is seemingly a contradiction - they are both the strongest and the most vulnerable person in the room", Billie - who appeared alongside her mom in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens - said. The 40th anniversary celebration of the Star Wars franchise in Orlando, Florida, closed out with a 5-minute tribute to Fisher and her oneness with the character that made her a star.
Fans can also catch quite a bit of the action online because Disney and Lucasfilm partnered with Verizon to offer more than 30 hours of live-streamed events at Star Wars Celebration.
