Carlo Ancelotti has refused to be negative about Bayern Munich's hopes of qualifying to the next round of the Champions League after Real Madrid defeat.
Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid overturned a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions quarter-final at the Allianz Arena to take a huge step towards a record seventh consecutive semi-final.
"With our second half, playing very well, keeping the ball from the opponent and the chances we had, it is clear that another goal would have been better".
Bayern, who had thrashed English club Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate to take their place in the last eight, went in front after 26 minutes through a bullet header from Arturo Vidal. "And to do it against a team as great as Bayern makes it feel even better". "I think if Neuer hadn't been on such a good night we would have scored more".
Ronaldo ended his European goal drought with two finishes in Germany on Wednesday evening to become the first player ever to score 100 times in European club competitions.
Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates after scoring the equalising goal. "The results are going our way and I'm happy because of that". "We were against a goalkeeper who is a wall", Zidane was quoted by Eurosport.
But Ronaldo equalised nearly immediately following half-time by knocking home Dani Carvajal's cross, then provoked two bookings which saw Bayern centre-half Javi Martinez sent off, and completed the comeback by stabbing in a cross from substitute Marco Asensio.
Ronaldo has now scored 82 goals in 84 Champions League appearances for Real, having netted 15 in the competition proper and one in a qualifier for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Bayern forward Thomas Muller said they were pleased in the end to come away with a one-goal deficit. Second half was a different Ronaldo.
Earlier on Wednesday, we had Monaco winning the first leg match against Borussia Dortmund 3-2 and a day before on Tuesday, Juventus surprised Barcelona fans by thrashing the Spanish giants 3-0.
That being said, the tension told when Marco Asensio, on as a substitute for Gareth Bale, clipped a delightful ball into Ronaldo's path on the 77th minute, and the forward got to the ball first to clip in the victor.
"He felt a tweak at half time and I didn't want to take any risks".
Ancelotti says the Germans still have a fighting chance in Madrid.
"It could have finished much higher, but we believe we can still do it".
