Speaking at a joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing, Al-Maliki said China should have "greater involvement in the process of reaching an agreement between Palestine and Israel".
On Wednesday, Russia blocked a draft resolution at the UN Security Council, which said that Damascus must hand over all data on April 4 flights to the OPCW and provide access to the airbases that could be used to carry out a strike against Khan Sheikhoun.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said that the Syrian government troops have never used or intend to use chemical weapons against civilians and against terrorists. The United States fired 59 cruise missiles at the Shairat military base in central Syria in response. "There is no geopolitical consideration in its role, nor intention to make a balance with any other country", Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters after his talks with visiting Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki in Beijing.
The Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, chosen by the worldwide community as the basis for conflict resolution, stipulates the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the borders set prior to the Six Day War in 1967, when Israel seized the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula.
Chinese envoys occasionally visit Israel and the Palestinian Territories, though China has traditionally played little role in Middle East conflicts or diplomacy, despite its reliance on the region for oil.
Wang reaffirmed China's condemnation and opposition to use of chemical weapons.
He said the Palestine issue can only be settled with concrete action.
Wang said Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected and that the country's problems mainly resolved by the Syrian people.
