'Beauty and the Beast' Waltzing Past $1B at Global Box Office

The studio's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released in December 2016, was the previous film to join the billion-dollar club, giving Disney four titles a year ago to accomplish that feat.

"Beauty and the Beast Jr." tells the story of Belle, (played by Nora Ligotti) an adventurous young girl, and the Beast, (Leo Hirsch) her ugly captor who is actually a young prince trapped under a spell. The film has earned more than $1 billion in ticket sales and earns the top spot as a musical film. It has consistently been on top of the box office worldwide and in less than a month earned more than $1 billion.

"Beauty and the Beast", which has so far reeled in $430.9 million domestically, is nearing a billion-dollar box office overall, grossing $976.3 million globally, according to Box Office Mojo. The film, which was released March 17, will likely become Disney's biggest animation to live-action film remake to date.

The reviews of Walt Disney's (DIS) summer movie pipeline are in, and Goldman Sachs says it expects fiscal 2018 to be the studio's "best film slate ever", driven by a slew of Marvel, "Star Wars" and animated movies.

In a press release, a Disney spokesperson confirmed that the movie, starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and Luke Evans, had cumulative gross earnings of P667.46 million at the box office.
