The Blue Jays dropped to 1-6, the worst start in team history.
Matt Harvey has never pitched against Yoenis Cespedes, but the New York Mets right-hander surmised after Tuesday's game, having witnessed all of his teammate's power, that he may have to walk him if he ever does.
Before departing, Harvey continued what he started in his season debut by handling the Phillies with relative ease.
In homering three times at Citizens Bank Park, Cespedes has now homered at this park more than any other in which he did not play road games, and eight of his 15 hits here have left the yard while 11 have gone for extra bases.
Yoenis Cespedes hit three of the New York Mets' seven homers in the 14-4 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Toronto Blue Jays lost again in Major League Baseball. Cespedes victimized Morgan with a no-doubt solo home run down the left field line in the fourth inning for his second dinger.
As his swing and miss rate over the first two games show, even the pitches he was able to get over the plate weren't sharp, for the most part.
Nolan Arenado, who has hits in eight of the Rockies' nine games, broke a 2-2 tie when he led off the seventh inning with his third homer.
"I spoke to him and he told me that he did not do it intentionally", Mackanin said.
Facing Clay Bucholz in the top of the first, Cespedes corkscrewed himself straight into a sitting position on the first pitch of the at-bat.
Don't worry, we'll show you if you haven't already seen it.
"I know it's in there somewhere", Mets manager Terry Collins said of Bruce. He allowed four runs on five hits, including two homers, while striking out 10. Hellickson is expected to make his next start. It's not serious, Harvey said.
For the second year in a row, the veteran depth has been the first starting pitcher to suffer an injury. Pete Mackanin, who was erroneously ejected after the Cabrera/Ramos dust-up, will surely have a sit-down today with the young pitcher.
"They were excited to come here". Philadelphia allowed just four hits but was undone by a late long ball.
Phillies reliever Edubray Ramos, facing the Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera for the first time since a fateful meeting between them last September at Citi Field, uncorked a pitch that sailed a foot or three above and behind Cabrera's noggin.
Michael Saunders had two hits and an RBI for Philadelphia. Eickhoff's last five starts against the Mets have produced a 2.03 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 4.13:1 (33-8) K:BB and just one home runs. They had 14 extra-base hits, second-most in this ballpark to their 15 on August 24, 2015.
"We went over a number of things", Mackanin said. After covering first base in the sixth inning, Harvey left the game with a tight hamstring. Bruce drew a leadoff walk and went to third on second baseman Cesar Hernandez's throwing error on Curtis Granderson's infield single.
