A day after a thrilling and eventful home-opener win, the Tigers notched a 4-1 win against the Boston Red Sox to kick off the weekend. The Tigers blew a 4-0 lead in the eighth, when Pablo Sandoval gave the Red Sox the lead with a three-run homer off Francisco Rodriguez (1-0).
Zimmermann (1-0) limited the Red Sox to one run on four hits in his longest outing since June 30.
Even his manager, John Farrell, noted Sale pitched around Kinsler for the objective of managing the situation..
"We know what's in front of us, we know how people feel. If I don't feel good or I'm not comfortable, then that's what he wants to know". "We have a number of guys that aren't 100 percent, but there's a lot of fight in this group".
Los Angeles Angels' Andrelton Simmons, right, looks at third base umpire Greg Gibson after applying a tag on Seattle Mariners' Jean Segura during the third inning of a baseball game Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Anaheim, Calif. Segura was called out after a video review. Hanley Ramirez and Mookie Betts didn't play Saturday. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts has also been on the bereavement list.
Mitch Moreland had two hits and scored the lone run as the Red Sox dropped to 0-2 in the four-game series.
"He's intentionally-walked a couple of times to get to me, and I've got him a couple of times in the past", Castellanos said.
"We've just gotta find someone that can pitch the seventh and eighth inning".
An idiot in Detroit today managed to evade security long enough to get nearly all the way across the field, breaking from a casual skip into a full sprint, before looping back and ultimately getting tackled. Bruce's second jack of the day broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th, his fourth dinger already on the young season. He's converted 21 chances in a row. After two starts, the Detroit ace's ERA stands at 1.35. Instead, the eighth continued with Sale being taken out for Heath Hembree, who had the pleasure of facing Miguel Cabrera. He responded with an RBI single to left.
Kimbrel then struck out Upton and Tyler Collins to end it.
Sale gave up five hits, walked one and fanned 10 in 7 2/3 innings.
Porcello looked briefly hobbled at one point when he brushed against Detroit third base coach Dave Clark while going to back up the base. The ball just felt chalky in my hand.
"Up and down the lineup, you had guys that were having good at-bats and passing the baton to the next guy", Detroit catcher James McCann said. Kinsler had tied the game in the sixth inning with a first-pitch solo home run to left field.
Daniel Norris allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for Detroit.
After quickly retiring the first two batters of the inning, Andrew Romine ripped a double off the glove of Brock Holt. It turned out Kinsler had come off the bag an instant before making the catch-and-throw to first. It did look like he exhausted a bit in the 8th but he had already struck out 10 and had already recorded two outs when Kevin Romine doubled to left and Castellanos delivered him with the game winning single.
"He came out of it OK", Farrell said "It was kind of scary and ugly looking when his footing gave way". Bradley said afterward he's hopeful he can avoid the DL, but he was set to return to Boston for further evaluation. The Red Sox couldn't do anything in the top of the ninth, and they went home having lost 3-of-4.
