USA officials blame Moscow for propping up Assad.

"We've seen the evidence on Assad, we know exactly what happened", Haley claimed.

"We are asking Russian Federation to fulfill its commitment and we're asking and calling on Bashar al-Assad to cease the use of these weapons". "Strengthening Assad will only lead to more murders", she said.

Tillerson said the United States is hopeful it can help bring parties together to begin the process of hammering out a political solution.

In Florida with the president, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said additional economic sanctions on Syria were being prepared.
