Quick takeaways: Mavericks get no help from Tony Romo mojo

With nothing at stake in a lost season that will be the worst for Dallas (32-49) since going 20-62 in 1997-98, the Mavericks followed through with an idea that Nowitzki and owner Mark Cuban discussed weeks ago at a party after the 19-year veteran reached 30,000 career points.
The Mavericks are already out of the playoffs, and there was literally nothing to play for against the Nuggets.
He was then introduced along with the starting lineups.
"Obviously he was a good player back in Wisconsin in high school", Nowitzki said of Romo's basketball aptitude.
It was also a night for Romo to soak in some of the gratitude that he could never fully acknowledge during his fruitless quest to win a Super Bowl. Just the scrambling that he did when the play wasn't working he was one of the best in the game.
"This is an honour I could never have dreamed of", Romo told the crowd before the game.
If you're a guy who had an National Football League career, it'd be pretty cool to have a picture on the wall of you as a member of an NBA basketball team, too. "How many weeks is Romo going to watch a bunch of average quarterbacks play and think - I should be doing that".
It's cool that Romo is receiving somewhat of a farewell from Dallas sports fans. The Mavericks sold Romo Mavericks jerseys for $85 and T-shirts for $25, but they were sold out by the end of the first quarter, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The reason Romo couldn't play Tuesday night is because his contract wouldn't have been honored.
"He busted the asses of a few of our young guys out there", Carlisle said.

Romo was released by the Cowboys last week, ending a 14 year career with the team where he became the franchise leader in touchdown passes and passing yards. "So we wanted to see if he would be willing to do this and we're happy that he was enthusiastically accepting". Barea as Carlisle gave him some fundamental pointers. A steady diet of Nowitzki jump shots kept the crowd engaged, but what likely kept most people in their seats was the fear of missing the tiniest chance that Romo would enter the game. It's hard to imagine him not feeling a lack of completion there, considering the way his relationship with coach Jason Garrett seemed to suffer with last year's transition to Dak Prescott. But Silver told Cuban Romo's one-day contract would not be honored.
In the past week, teammates have taken to social media to praise Romo. Thanks for everything you've done for Dallas, and you've represented us great, bro.
