Mourinho backs Ibrahimovic to fire Manchester United to Europa League success

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has proved himself to be an exception, with the Swede imposing himself not just for Man United, but he is now one of the best strikers in the English Premier League.

Manchester United may be struggling by their own high standards under Jose Mourinho this season but the Portuguese manager will get them back to winning ways, the club's former captain Nemanja Vidic said on Tuesday.

The other golden oldie in the Premier League this season is Sunderland's Jermain Defoe who, at the ripe age of 34, has registered 14 goals.

United are fifth in the league table, four points adrift of the final Champions League qualification spot.

The 35-year-old's decision could hinge on United's chances of making next season's Champions League with Jose Mourinho's men now in fifth.

"We are not in the position we would like to be of course but we are fighting for the Champions League", the Serbian told Man Utd's official club website.

United meet Anderlecht in the quarter-final, first leg on Thursday with Ibrahimovic just two rounds from a title match in Stockholm next month.

"He has been in charge of big teams and won trophies in different countries so he has the experience and I believe he knows what he is doing".

"I would make him my player of the season simply because he is 35 years old, he has single-handedly kept them in lots of competitions. He has a good feeling in this stadium".

"It's the motivation of everyone at the club to go to the final and I believe maybe he has a little more motivation because the final is in Sweden", Jose added.
