When it comes to politics, Katy Perry is one of the most outspoken and vocal celebrities that pop culture has to offer.
"The schools were really makeshift", explained Perry to the fashion publication.
"I want to know what's going on on the other side", Perry told Vogue magazine in a recent interview. Surprisingly, she found Manson's show "really interesting and weird - I got it". That was my whole childhood and youth and early teens.
Although that rocket took her further than she expected, she doesn't have many regrets and says she's in control now. She didn't learn much about non-religious music growing up, only hearing "about Madonna and Marilyn Manson in my family because we picketed their concerts", Perry says.
Perry went on to describe handing out "How To Find God" pamphlets at a Manson gig in Santa Barbara when she was younger.
"I had never heard such an imaginative explanation of how to live", she recalled.
She goes on to confide, "I've learned a lot of lessons - patience, the art of saying no, that everything doesn't have to end in marriage". "I still have the conditioned layers dropping off of me by the day". I felt so free and accepted. Perry, the once bubblegum pop artist with a quirky, colorful shoe line recently launched, dons haute couture along the lines of Rei Kawakubo's geometric creations (she sports a Comme Des Garcons avant garde red dress on the May cover). Perry added that doing anything less would, to put it bluntly, be selfish.
Following the release of her breakthrough single, "I Kissed a Girl", in 2008, a then 24-year-old Perry would become the music industry's hottest commodity - and the apple of comedian Russell Brand's eye.
"I know that I can bring light and joy and happiness in tiny installments of three minutes and 30 seconds", she continues.
